Prerequisites: Statistics 251 (Statistical Methods), Statistics 301 (Probability and Statistics), or similar introductory statistics course.
Textbooks: An Introduction to Statistical Methods and Data Analysis (6th Edition) by Ott and Longnecker. ISBN: 0495017582. Copies are on reserve in the library. You may also purchase the book or individual chapters “electronically” through the publisher’s web site at www.cengage.com/highered.
Software: We will be using SAS (version 9.2). SAS is available in the student computer labs on campus. One-year student licenses are available through the bookstore.

Homework: Homework problems will be recommended regularly but will not be collected/graded. Homework solutions will be made available on Blackboard.
Examinations: There are four examinations during the semester before the final examination. These are on 9/17, 10/15, 11/12, and 12/3. Make-ups for missed examinations will only be permitted for documented university sanctioned events or in extreme circumstances. Notice of a missed examination must be given in advance of the time of the quiz, and arrangements for make-ups for foreseeable absences must be made prior to the time of the missed quiz. There is a final examination on Monday, December 13th, from 10:00 to 12:00. The final examination may not be taken at another time unless, as per university policy, you have more than two final examinations on that day. For the final examination you may use up to six pieces of paper of notes. For the other examinations you may one piece of paper. The paper should be standard letter size (i.e., 8.5 by 11 inches) or smaller. Writing on both sides of the paper is fine. You should also bring a calculator to all examinations.
Grading: The final examination is worth 25% of your grade. The other examinations are each worth 18.75% of your grade. Grades will be assigned according to the following: A (87.5%-100%), B (75%-87.5%), C (62.5%-75%), D (50%-62.5%), F (less than 50%).
